QuickBooks Company File Not Responding? Here’s What To Do This issue has multiple solutions that you can try. Down below are the procedures that you can try: What’s Causing The Issue? • It’s important to understand what’s really causing the issue. Follow the steps down below if you feel QuickBooks or the company file itself is causing the issue. • Go to the Windows Start Menu. • In the search type, “File Explorer” and then open it. • Search and find the QuickBooks.exe file. This can be found in the QuickBooks folder. • Press the ctrl key on your keyboard and double-click on QuickBooks.exe. Do not let go of the CTRL key until QuickBooks opens. • Now open your company file. If you can’t open a company file, then open QuickBooks. Open a company sample file. • Now, if QuickBooks or sample file does not open, then probably QuickBooks is causing the issue. • If the sample File opens as usual, proceed with the procedure given below.
Workstation Hosting Must be Turned Off • If the sample file opens normally from the above procedure, follow the steps given below. • Skip this step if the company file isn’t hosted on a network and you don’t operate using multi-user mode. The server computer should be the only one hosting. • Open QuickBooks on one of your systems. • Select the File menu and move the cursor over Utilities. • Don’t select the “Host Multi-User Access” option. Go to the next workstation. This isn’t the workstation that’s causing the issue. • Select the Stop Hosting Multi-User Access, if that is an option you see. • Repeat the above steps on all the workstations. • Now once after checking for workstations, go to the server computer. Follow the steps given below: • On the server computer open QuickBooks. The server computer hosts the company file. • Move to the File menu and move the cursor over Utilities. • Select the Host Multi-user Access option if it’s available. • Switch the setting and repeat the process. Choose Stop Hosting Multi-user Access. This should reset the multi-user mode. • Repeat the process once again and choose Host Multi-User Access.
