Bengali literature is incomplete without childrenu2019s literature. The most famous among them are Aabol Taabol by Sukumar Ray which consists of nonsense literature. Chander Pahar is another adventure novel set in Africa. Harshabardhan and Gobardhan are humorous characters by Shibram Chakraborty. Panther Panchali by Satyajit Ray is another milestone Bengali novel. Gosainbaganer Bhoot as the name suggests, is another horror teenage storybook which has earned a reputation in Bengali literature.

  1. Abol Tabol Abol Tabol is a collection of Bengali poems or rhymes composed by Sukumar Ray. It was first published in 1923 consisting of 46 titled and 7 untitled rhymes. It falls in the genre of nonsense literature. It offers the best pun-riddled poetry to which Bengali readers were first exposed.

  2. Monojder Adbhut Bari Monojder Adbhut Bari by Ananda publishers is a Bengali adventure story written by Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay. The story is about a young boy, Manoj and his weird family. He leads a chaotic life with his whimsical family members and ends in an adventure after his cow goes missing.

  3. Chander Pahar It is a Bengali adventure novel written by Bibhutibhushon Bandopadhyay and published by Parul Prokashoni. It was published in 1937 and the novel follows the adventures of a young man in the forests of Africa. It is one of the most loved and most popular Bengali adventure novels which was later adapted into a film. He wants to explore the wilderness and encounters many dangers on his way.

  4. Aam AantirBhepu We are all well aware of Panther Panchali by Satyajit Ray. Aam Aanthir Bhepu is the children’s edition of Panther Panchali. The main characters of this book are Apu and his elder sister, Durga who comes across several obstacles in their lives. The plot is set in rural Bengal and is known for its simplicity.

  5. Gonshai Baganer Bhoot This is a Bengali comedy fantasy written by Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay and published by Ananda publishers. It is a horror book for teenage readers and the tale revolves around Burun and befriends a ghost at Gosainbagan. It was published in 1979 and is considered a popular children’s book.

  6. Harshabardhan Gobardhan Harshabardhan and Gobardhan are two Bengali humorous fictional characters created by Shibram Chakraborty. The book was published by Parul prokashoni and is a collection of short satirical stories. A characteristic of these stories is wit, a play of words and the good-natured characters.
