Finland is not just a country with a cold weather, known as the land of a thousand lakes or a thousand forests, or the place in the world where you can meet the real Santa Claus. WHY STUDY IN FINLAND Compared to other popular international student destinations such as Tokyo, London or Paris, the cost of living is much lower in Finland. While the Finnish government has instituted that non- EU/EEA students pay tuition fees, that rule doesn’t apply if you’re taking a Doctoral programme, are going to Finland to take part in an exchange programme or are enrolled in a degree programme that is taught either in Finnish or Swedish. Finland's high educational standards are just one of the ways that this forward-thinking country works to make the world and the future a better place. Finland leads the world in futurology, and its universities are central to the country's efforts. Students can join the Helsinki Challenge, “a science-based competition and idea accelerator,” that aims to achieve the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and build a better future.
ADMISSION CRITERIA English language requirement Be aware that the English language skill level required by an institution can be different from the level of skill required for your student visa application. Under Graduate Requirement- 5.5 No less than 5.0 Post Graduate Requirement- 6.5 No less than 6.0 Ph.D. Literature and Medicine Program- 7.5 no less than 7.0
The academic requirements you need to study in Finland will vary depending on the level of education you want to study. Institutions can have different entry requirements. HIGHER EDUCATION UNDERGRADUATE To gain entry into a Finland undergraduate course you will need to have a Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (Year 12), Further Some courses may require some specific Subjects also. POSTGRADUATE Satisfactory completion of at least one degree at an undergraduate level, your institution may take research ability or relevant work experience into consideration. Further, Some courses may require some specific Subjects also.
Tuition & living expense For your everyday living expenses, we recommend that you reserve at least 700-900 euros per month. If you are a non-EU/EEA student applying for English- taught Bachelor's or Master's programmes, you are also likely to be subject to tuition fees. The annual tuition fee depends on the degree course, varying approximately between 4.000 to 18.000 euros. Living Expense: €11,000 p.a Part-time work is allowed for students of all nationalities, but part-time work may not be easy to find especially if you do not know Finnish or Swedish. That's why you should not base your financial plans solely on the option of finding part- time employment. Also, keep in mind that earnings from possible part-time work may not in themselves be sufficient to cover all your expenses.
Scholarships The Finnish universities and UAS's offer scholarships for gifted non-EU/EEA students admitted to fee-charging Bachelor's or Master's programmes. Each university/UAS has its own scholarship programme; you can read more about these scholarships on the institutions' own website. You usually apply for these scholarships at the same time when you apply for admission. You might wish to check if you would be eligible to apply for some study abroad scholarships, and from international organisations and foundations. For information on these, please log on to Abroad Shiksha or speak to our Admission Counsellors. Additionally, if full degree studies are not an option for you, you could check if there are some student exchange options that you could apply for.
Visa and Funding A student who wants to stay and study in Finland, but is not a citizen of Finland, will require either a student visa or a student residence permit to fulfil this objective. However, the Finland student visa and the residence permit do not refer to the same document. Finland student visa is a temporary short-term permit that is issued to a foreign student who wants to stay and study in Finland for a maximum of 90 days (3 months). The student residence permit is also suitable for any foreign student whose exchange study period in Finland is scheduled to last for a period of more than 3 months.
Work Opportunities after Study. You successfully completed your studies and are now thinking of your next move? Then finding employment or pursuing further studies in Finland is an option that should not go unnoticed! As a non-EU student who has stayed in Finland on a student residence permit, you can apply for an extended residence permit for up to a year after your graduation to search for work. If you find employment, you can then, of course, apply for a new residence permit based on this employment. Note that you need to apply for a residence permit for seeking work in Finland during the time your permit granted for studies is still valid.
