PROFILE • The Ariaal Rendille are a cultural blend of Rendille and Samburu.They are also known as Ariaal,Tumaal or Ilturia. • -They are ethnically Rendille, but speak Samburu. • The major difference between the Ariaal and the Rendille is that many of Ariaal have cattle, a factor that contributes to the tendency of the burgeoning Ariaal population to become Samburu. PROFILE • The Bajun are Bantus who are likely a mixture of Arabs(Mostly Hijaz, of the Persian Gulf and South Arabia), • Somalis and Coastal Bantus. Bajun speak a variety of the Northern Swahili dialects. • Some Bajun relate their ancestry to Orientals and Europeans. Their culture varies slightly depending on their origin. PROFILE In the Kiunga and Witu divisions of the Lamu District at the Coast of Kenya, we find the Boni, a remnant Cushitic hunter-gatherer group of people, who are believed to be descendants of the southern Cushitic group. They likely migrated from Shungwaya along side the Somali people, Oromo, from eastern Ethiopia, and are related to the Kenyan Waata and Sanye. An ACM – FTT AfriServe Survey

PROFILES In the north central part of Kenya are the peace-loving Borana. The Borana of northeastern province of Kenya are a section of the Galla-speaking people’s who in 16th and 17th centuries expanded into present day Ethiopia and Kenya. In the 1580s the King of Ethiopia, Serse-Digil, found that many Borana had penetrated into the centre of his kingdom. He allowed them to settle in the southern Dirre region. PROFILE • The Chamus inhabit the area South and East of Lake Baringo in Baringo District, one of the 17 districts in the Rift Valley Province. Their district borders are Turkana District to the North, Samburu and Laikipia districts to the East, Kiobatek to the South and Keiyo, Marakwet and West Pokot districts to the west. Their territory streches from ISland camp (around the southern end of Lake Baringo) to the Salabani. PROFILE • The Daasanech are a Cushitic speaking people whose cultural identity is thought to be the result of their shared place of residence with other people groups, rather than of heredity. Neighboring communities have referred to them with different names, but the Daasanech consider these names derogatory. PROFILE • The deaf live within the same environment as hearing Kenyans. Because deaf people do indeed have their own language, culture and values, they should be recognized as a people group of their own in terms of Gospel outreach. They prefer to be referred to as the Deaf, as the term Hearing Impaired is used to refer to those who have lost or are losing their ability to hear due to age, accident or illness, have not learned sing language as their primary mode of communication, and/or have not entered into the Deaf culture. PROFILE • The Digo live along the Indian Ocean coast from the town of Tanga in Tanzania to the Kenyan city of Mombasa. They are primarily concentrated on the coastal strip between Mombasa and the boarder with Tanzania. The Digo, who mainly practice subsistence farming, are the second largest of the tribe of the Mijikenda. The are said to have migrated in the 16th and 17th centuries from a place called Shingwaya in present day Somalia, under pressure from the Galla people. However, no written record confirms this. Today the Digo are the most southern Mijikenda, which as a group as a group stretch north beyond Malindi town. An ACM – FTT AfriServe Survey

PRAYER POINTERS • Pray that God will cause the Digo people to become dissatisfied with their traditional religious and begin searching for the Truth. • Pray that God will empower the Kenyan Church with the ability and the strategy to reach the Digo tribe with the Gospel. • Ask God to soften the hearts and open the ears of the Digo people to the Gospel as it is presented to them. • Pray that Christian broadcasts will be made available in the area of Kenya where the Digo tribe is located. • Pray for the Christians working near the Digo settlements. PROFILE • Sliding through the dense forest, the mud-covered young Dorobo hunter stiffened suddenly as he heard unfamiliar voices ahead. Creeping forward, he spied a group of oddly dressed people talking to his fellow tribesmen. “Is this really the end of the world, is this the Jesus they talk about?” he pondered . THE GABBRA DEMOGRAPHICS • Population: 50-60,000 • Religion: Islam, Traditional • Status Less than 0.2% Christian An ACM – FTT AfriServe Survey
PROFILE • The Gabbra live in the Chalbi desert between Lake Turkana and Moyale and Marsabit, extending into the Bula Dera plain east of the Moyale-Marsabit road, and the Mega escarpment in southern Ethiopia. They share portions of this area with the Borana, Rendille, Samburu, Daasanach and Turkana. They still roam with their herds across the border. The Gabbra are an Eastern Cushitic people related to the Somali-Rendille in their historical origins in the southern Ethiopian highlands about AD 1000. The Miigo sub-tribe came more recently from the Garre group of the Somali people. The Gabbra are closely related both historically and culturally with the Sakuye people. PROFILE • The Garrej-Ajuran are a small group of pastoralists who are believed to be Oromo heritage. They mainly occupy Mandera and Wajir District of Kenya’s North Eastern Province. They entered this part of Kenya in search of water and pasture for their livestock. An ACM – FTT AfriServe Survey
