How I Got Started Selling on Amazon FBA Amazon FBA (Fulfilment by Amazon) is a service offered by Amazon that allows you to sell products without worrying about shipping and fulfillment details on your own. If you're new to the world of e-commerce, this article will give you the basics of how I got started selling on Amazon FBA and what made me want to switch from selling products myself to using the FBA program instead. What Exactly Is Amazon FBA? Suppose you're familiar with how online marketplaces work. In that case, you might already know that Amazon is a marketplace where third-party sellers can list their products for sale and provide shipping services to customers. You may be wondering: Why would anyone ever want to sell stuff on a site where there are already millions of listings for millions of different products? It turns out that selling on a platform like Amazon has some big advantages compared to opening up a shop somewhere else. For example, through an app called Jungle Scout, it is possible to quickly search for profitable items and get sellers' email addresses right within your browser—just by typing in a few keywords!
My Experience with the Process As a stay-at-home mom with no business background or formal training, I can honestly say that starting an Amazon business was not easy. It was time-consuming and required a lot of my time, but it is an incredible way to make money online. (The first couple of months are hard, though). I started by reading dozens of books about selling on Amazon, watching YouTube videos, and joining Facebook groups to get some advice from sellers who were ahead of me in their businesses. As someone who did not know how to start an online business, I found all of these resources extremely helpful as they gave me little hints here and there about what works and what doesn't when starting. But before you throw your money at buying products to sell on Amazon (or even worse, spending thousands of dollars in manufacturer costs upfront with no guarantee that any of it will be profitable), there are a few things we should go over first. This isn't just some random guy telling you what to do — we've got hard data and years of experience in our favor. We'll cover which brands have higher margins than others and why, what factors make sure your product is something customers want to buy, and most importantly: how to figure out whether or not a product will be profitable. So let's get started! What Do You Need To Get Started? To get started selling on Amazon, you'll need a few things. First, you'll need to decide whether you want to sell new or used products. You may find that some of your best success comes from selling used items – they don't cost as much money, so it's possible to make more profit per item. Of course, if you want to sell new items, that will likely be a bit more profitable. It all depends on what type of seller you are and your long-term goals for your business. You should also check with your local laws and regulations – there may be some products (such as food) that aren't allowed to be sold online or shipped across state lines.
My Journey On Amazon FBA (and how you can make it as an entrepreneur) I began my journey selling on Amazon FBA about two years ago. The learning curve is quite steep, but once you get a hold of how things work and start making money, it's almost addictive to continue growing your business. As an entrepreneur who started with little knowledge or experience in business or marketing, it wasn't easy at first. What is Amazon FBA? Before getting into how you can use Amazon FBA, it's a good idea to look at what it is. In short, Amazon FBA stands for Fulfilled by Amazon. With an Amazon FBA business, you ship your products directly to an Amazon warehouse and let them handle customer service and returns while charging only storage fees. You can focus on what matters most: expanding your business and making sales. Why Selling on Amazon Is So Powerful The first thing you should know about selling on Amazon is that it's super popular. Tens of millions of people use Amazon every month, and there are over 200 million products for sale at any given time. Combine that with heavy traffic, hundreds of thousands of reviews, and an army of passionate shoppers who use it as their main source for finding and purchasing new items and you have a recipe for success! Pros of Selling On Amazon vs. Other Online Platforms There are plenty of reasons why someone might choose to sell on Amazon instead of another online marketplace. We'll go over a few of them here, but we'd love for you to add your thoughts in the comments! The Pros of Selling on Amazon: This list tends to grow and frequently changes because there are so many advantages to selling on Amazon. You get free shipping and can be sold in hundreds of countries.
How Can I Get Started Selling on Amazon? To get started, there are several options. If you're an entrepreneur looking for a new challenge, you can start a business and sell on Amazon full-time. How To Optimise Your Products For Maximum Profits How do you know which products will be winners and which ones aren't? To save you time, energy, and money on your Amazon endeavors, we've compiled a comprehensive list of products that meet three simple criteria: high-profit potential, high buyer demand, and low competition. Step 1 - Keyword Research A quick and effective way to start building your private label brand is by focusing on a niche you know people are actively looking for products. To research keywords that best describe your product idea, head over to Google's Keyword Planner tool, which provides monthly search volume data for specific search terms. And if you want more information about how much it costs per click for certain keyword phrases, Google's Adwords Keyword Tool will tell you all. Step 2 - Product Selection & Competitive Analysis This is arguably one of your most important steps. You have to figure out which profitable products and how many units you can realistically sell per month. These will be your main source of income, so choose wisely. Step 3 - Creating Your Listing The first thing you need to do is create a professional listing. The most important part of your listing will be your product images, which should be uploaded as follows: • 5 main images that fill up a large portion of your screen (front view) • 5 different action shots. Step 4 - Price, Reviews & Titles Before diving in, consider how many products like yours are selling on Amazon. When I see competition selling my item for $35, I'll price mine at $29.99 with free shipping, and when I see the competition below $20, I go down as low as possible (which is often around $15-$17). Reviews are a huge part of ranking well on Amazon. Start by getting a least ten reviews. Step 5 - Launching Your Product Here we are at last! Congratulations, you've made it through those long hours of research and preparation. Now comes what I consider one of the most exciting parts about selling on Amazon: launching your product. You're so close now - don't get too excited and rush
through things, though, or you might end up with a failed launch. We want a huge success here, so take your time and go step by step! Why Did My Inventory Move From Available to Ships in 3-4 Months? In mid-June of 2017, Amazon announced a new program called Fulfillment by Amazon (or FBA) to provide sellers with storage and shipment of their products. Essentially, all sellers have to do is send in their inventory and then leave it up to Amazon to get it out into customers' hands. What Are Buy Boxes and How Do They Impact My Profits? A buy box is an area on a product listing where customers can place orders. The seller with a buy box is usually determined by price, availability, and rating. Sellers can be matched against each other for these buy boxes for competitive purposes. Check out our post, How Do Buy Boxes Impact My Profits? for more info on how this feature affects your sales. Step 6: What Else Should I Know About Selling on Amazon? Go from zero (0) product sales and 0 reviews to a top seller in your category. How can you go from shipping no orders to ten (10) orders a day or more? What are some of my most advanced hacks for growing an online business fast? This section will teach you how. The knowledge I'm sharing with you here is not even something I tell all my consulting clients! Let me help YOU grow your company so that YOU can be our next success story.
9 Ways to Find Product Ideas for Amazon FBA Do you have an idea for a product you could sell on Amazon? If so, you’re in the right place because finding product ideas to sell on Amazon is what we do best! One of the most important aspects of running an Amazon FBA business is creating your product listings and doing keyword research, but it can be hard to figure out where to start when picking your products. We put together this list of 9 ways to find product ideas for Amazon FBA. 1) Check for competitors with lots of reviews Since your goal is to find products that already have lots of reviews, it’s worth looking at your competitors and seeing how many reviews they have on their main page. If you see that a competitor has more than 100 reviews with an average score of 3.5 stars or better, you know there is probably demand for your product. 2) Pay attention to niche keywords Take a look at some of your competitors’ product listings. Which ones are ranking well? What are they selling? What keywords do they use that you don’t see in your product listings? Use these keywords as inspiration. For example, if one competitor is using A1425, you can research what products have an A1425 and try targeting that term in your listing. 3) Play with the Buy Box algorithm If you’re trying to win The Buy Box, you should ensure that your prices are competitively low. One of the ways Amazon decides who gets The Buy Box is through price – if your price is better than your competitors’, you’ll beat them out in terms of getting The Buy Box. So check out these steps from Jungle Scout on how to use automated repricing software so that you can update your prices automatically. 4) Turn hobbies into products Hobbies—including scrapbooking, gardening, cooking, crafting, knitting, and other crafts—are easy to make extra cash without leaving your house. If you don’t have an interest in crafting or creating things yourself but love art and want to support independent artists who do, it’s possible to get paid for that passion.
5) Do your research on sponsored ads (Amazon ads) The key thing about sponsored ads on Amazon is finding out exactly what keywords people use when searching for products. If you take your search terms from these sponsored ads, you’ll make sure they’re real people looking to buy your product, not just random visitors that may never convert. If you have an eCommerce store already, look at which products rank well in Google and see if they match up with your best-selling products. 6) Look at what competing brands are doing When you’re building a product business, it’s helpful to look at what your competitors are doing—after all, if someone is already making money selling a product similar to yours, there’s probably room in that market for you. One of my favorite ways to see what competitors are doing is checking out their Facebook and Instagram ads. If they advertise their products on these platforms, they must have found some success with them. 7) Understand your margins before jumping in There are many ways to find profitable products to sell on Amazon. Some sellers look for products with a high margin (in other words, products where they can make lots of money). Others search based on what customers are currently buying. Regardless of your approach, be sure you understand your profit margins before making any purchases. That will help guide your decision-making process when purchasing inventory. 8) Start with a small order first Rather than sinking a lot of money into a new product that will only sell ten units, start small and gradually scale up your sales efforts as you become more confident in your idea. This also makes it easier for you to gauge customer interest—and ensure that there’s a market for what you’re offering. 9) Share your products on different marketplaces (Etsy, eBay, etc.) Selling products on marketplaces is a great way to test your product and generate sales. Your earnings will not be nearly as high as selling an item on Amazon, but it is a good place to start and get feedback. It’s also really easy to add items you find
online and make them available in your shop. This can even lead to some cross-selling if you’re lucky enough.
