CoLdPlaY • Coldplay are a British Band formed in London in 1998. The band is made up of: • vocalist/keyboardist/guitarist Chris Martin, lead guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman, and drummer/backing vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Will Champion.
HiStOrY • Coldplay achieved worldwide fame with there album “Yellow”, Followed by there debut album “Parachutes” which was nominated for the “Mercury Prize” but didn’t win. Its follow up album “A Rush of Blood to the Head” won multiple awards, such as “Album of the Year” There fourth Album “Viva La Vida” earned several Grammy nominations and wins.
EaRlY CaReEr • The members of Coldplay met at the University College London. Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland were the first members of the band, having met one another during their orientation week. They spent the rest of the college year planning the band and made there first group called “called Pectoralz”. Later Guy Berryman also joined the group. Then by 1997, they renamed the group to “Starfish” and performed gigs for local Camden promoters at small clubs. Then they hired Phil Harvey, who was a school friend to be there manager.
PaRaChUtEs • In March 1999, Coldplay began work on their debut album, recorded at Rockfield Studios with producer Ken Nelson. After releasing three EPs without a hit song, Coldplay scored their first Top 40 single, "Shiver". Released in March 2000, it reached at number 35 on the UK Singles Chart and earned the band their first airplay on MTV. In June 2000 Coldplay had there first headlining tour showing at Glastonbury. The bad also released the breakthrough single “Yellow”, the song was number four in the UK charts. In July 2000 Coldplay released there album, “Parachutes”.
A RuSh Of BlOoD tO tHe HeAd • Coldplay started to make there second album in October 2001 “A Rush of Blood to the Head”. And was then released in August 2002. In December 2003 they were voted best banned in “The Rolling Stones” magazines. A Rush of Blood to the Head won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album at the 2003 Grammy Awards.
