Google for Educators • www.google.com/educagtors/index.html • Offers a more in depth discussion of some of the applications we’ve already discussed • Includes classroom activities designed for these applications • Crib sheets explain how you could develop lessons with these programs
United Streaming • www.unitedstreaming.com • Digital Videos and Resources provided by Discovery Learning and GPB • Free to Georgia Schools – just get your school’s information from your media specialist to set up a teacher account • Great way to incorporate visuals and audio to existing lessons or create new ones!
Searching United Streaming • You can either search using keywords, or just click on a grade level or subject • Keyword searches may be more efficient when paired with the ‘Narrow my Results’ options
Options in United Streaming • Once you’ve chosen your video, you have several options • Turn on/off closed captioning • Choose media types (QuickTime or Media Player) • Open in another window • View entire video or just a segment or two • Use the teacher materials and quizzes • Stream, download or add the video to your content or lesson/activity • You can also see how to cite the video, the grade level it was designed to compliment
MSN Encarta • http://encarta.msn.com/ • Free online multimedia service, but you can pay to get the entire upgraded version • There are several options for enriching lessons here: • Encyclopedia • Dictionary • Thesaurus • Atlas • Multimedia Tools/Activities • Quizzes related to content • Much more!
Encarta Multimedia Center • Narrow your search for specific types of media via the links to the left of the screen • Some interactive media has audio • The videos cannot be enlarged on the free version, so this activity may be best used when students are at their own computers • There is a great deal of options in this program, so take some time to explore!
