  4. The library staff don’t own the library. • You can recommend and request resources • You can book the library as a reading area or teaching space • Consider the library as a research and learning centre

  5. The best resource in the library is the teacher librarian. Teacher librarians can: • Help you plan a guided inquiry • Help you solve a technology problem • Find professional research • Answer a reference question • If we can’t do it, we can find someone who can • Obtain materials from other libraries • Celebrate your students’ work • Have an overview of the whole school curriculum

  6. Advanced planning is a good thing. • It ensures that we have resources to suit your needs. • It gives us time to prepare links to appropriate websites. • Experienced librarians can help you to know what will work. • We can help to create assessment that considers both PROCESS and PRODUCT.

  7. The library provides both print and digital resources. • Sometimes print resources are better suited to students’ needs. • Students need to be taught how to read, question, evaluate and compare information from internet sites. • Younger students need child-friendly search engines. • We can help you select websites best suited for your students’ use.

  8. The teacher librarian can provide support with technology. • Location and availability of equipment • Use of scanners, camera, video cameras • How to use programs that kids have access to eg Kidspiration, Kidpix, Ziptales • Keep you in touch with the latest PD opportunities

  9. We can help your students’ performance on reading tests. • Matching readers to books • Giving book talks • Finding literature to support your units of work • Providing favourite or new authors • Meet remedial or extension reading needs

  10. Like trying new things?Need a partner? • Need someone to share the glory or shame of a new unit? • Need someone to listen to you brag about a fantastic lesson? • Need to pick someone’s brain? • Need to team teach a new methodology or subject area for moral support?
