10. High School Preparedness Education Leadership in Emergency Management (LEM) This preparedness education program is free to camps. It requires trained instructors with EM background and has been piloted with 370 students over 2 years. Ask about our one pager to distribute to your camp communities today! Implemented in summer camps, the 3 hour Leadership in Emergency Management (LEM) base course gives 9-12th graders the experience of role playing incident command positions in disaster scenarios based on real events that occurred in New England. Students conduct group presentations, discuss how their plans impact individuals, and conclude by drafting individual emergency plans to implement at home. The base course can also be accompanied by optional expansion lessons, covering up to 3 days worth of training. Created by the people that brought you the STEP program with collaboration from Massachusetts Maritime Academy, the American Red Cross, Mayflower RSVP, Boston Public Schools, and the NorthEast Disaster Recovery Information X-Change (NEDRIX).

Leadership in Emergency Management (LEM) • Purpose of program results are beneficial to students because: • Learning how the planning process places a critical role in Emergency Management. • Role-playing leadership positions within the management of an incident, practicing skills in critical thinking, difficult decision making, and working in a team. • Preparing and conducting group presentations implementing preparedness plans in their homes. • Becoming exposed to Homeland Security and Emergency Management fields. • Obtaining ongoing access to emergency preparedness programs, resources, and community activities

12. Minor League Baseball & Disaster Preparedness A Twitter Quiz: Covering the Bases Since 2004, the Ready Campaign has partnered with Citizen Corps and Minor League Baseball™ to help spread the importance of emergency preparedness to baseball fans at stadiums nationwide. Minor League Baseball™ stadiums have provided the ideal venue and opportunity to reach millions of baseball fans and their communities to encourage them to get prepared. Conducting the quiz is loudspeaker simple, requiring getting the question to the fans (by, JumboTron, or a combination of the two, depending on available equipment), following the responses on Twitter with the hashtag #imprepared, and selecting a winner. The ultimate goal is to get the public thinking about his or her family’s disaster preparedness plan. • Benefits of participating: • Recognition on ready.gov’s Web site for participating. • A more disaster-resilient audience. • Crowd-friendly interaction

Student Tools for Emergency Preparedness (STEP) • No Fee/Cost • Has reached 26,000+ students within 2 years • Students assemble emergency kits with and for their families. • Students learn general disaster information. • A framework for teachers to instruct students about emergencies and disasters. • 1 hour base lesson is easy to teach and engaging to students by utilizing videos, stopping points, and discussion-based questions.

ESPN’s 2nd Annual Security and Safety Awareness Day September FEMA educated ESPN’s 5000+ employees on preparedness topics and provided useful tips to better equip employees and their families to prepare for disasters. Discuss mutually beneficial programs and opportunities to partner to better serve FEMA/ESPN stakeholders and ESPN’s surrounding communities.

The National Disaster Recovery Frame Work The National Disaster Recovery Framework is a guide that enables effective recovery support to disaster-impacted States, Tribes, Territorial and local jurisdictions. It provides a flexible structure that enables disaster recovery managers to operate in a unified and collaborative manner. It also focuses on how best to restore, redevelop and revitalize the health, social, economic, natural and environmental fabric of the community and build a more resilient Nation. October 2011

Next Steps • In order to coordinate interagency disaster recovery issues and oversee the implementation of the NDRF, the current Planning Division within the Recovery Directorate will now serve as the National Disaster Recovery Planning Division. This Division will continue to work with all stake holders to develop: • Annexes with the Recovery Support Function Coordinating Agencies for the NDRF • Interagency all hazards recovery operational plan to support the NDRF and PPD 8; and • Guidance and standard operating procedures for the Recovery Support Functions for the rapid activation of capabilities to support community recovery. • Additional GS14/15 position in each FEMA region
