  2. Problems He Faced • Get attention – talk about others 1:3-2:5 • Moral deterioration, 2:6,7 • Material prosperity, 3:15; 6:3-6 • Apostasy, 5:21-24 • Pride and arrogance, 6:1

  3. How Did He Handle It? • Revealed God’s message, 1:3,6,9,11,13; 2:1,4,6 • Challenged them to hear, 3:1; 4:1; 5:1; 7:16 (Rev. 2:7,11,17,29; 3:6,13,22) • Penalty for not hearing, 8:11,12 (Amos exemplified, 7:12-17; cp. 1 Tim. 4:16; 2 Tim. 4:1-5)

  4. What Was His Message? • Proper treatment of fellow man, 2:6-8; 8:4-6 (justice, 5:24; Mt. 7:12) • Against abuse of wealth, 4:1-3,12 (1 Tim. 6:17-19) • Against procrastination, 6:3-8; 5:18-21

  5. His Conclusion, 9:11-15 • David’s throne – ended for Israel at division of kingdom • It ended for Judah with captivity, Jer.22:24-30 • Christ on David’s throne, Lk. 1:32,33; Acts 2:29-31; 15:13-17; Rev. 3:21
