These tools can be categorized based on for the purpose they are used. E.g. MS project, Earned value management etc. are used for project management; test automation tools are used for test management etc. So tools and techniques can be used for project management, software engineering (software lifecycle), people management etc. • Tool and technique selection requires a careful consideration for the environment in which they will operate, compatibility with existing tools, cost, data integration with other existing tools and scale of operation for which the specific tool will be used.
