Priorities for the Fine Arts 1. Develop PreK-8 voluntary state curricula (VSC) for the fine arts during 2003-2004. • dance • music • theatre • visual arts
Priorities for the Fine Arts Develop an Assessment Tool Kit to: • inform instructional practice • enhance the practitioner’s understanding of assessment processes and Skills
Middle Level Assessment Develop a fine arts assessment for students exiting Grade 8.
MSDE and Westat Assessment Contract • Specific sets of deliverables are required for each of three years. • Years I & II items and tasks were based on State standards for the arts, the Maryland Essential Learner Outcomes for the Fine Arts. • Year III deliverables are grounded in the essential curriculum and Assessment Tool Kit design.
In Summary – The Priorities • Development of the VSC in Fine Arts • Assessment Tool Kit to inform instruction and provide resources for teachers • Summative assessment process to document student learning
