Medical surveillance • Examinations will be: • prior to assignment • at least annually for employees under 45 years old with fewer than 10 years of exposure over the action level 6c
Medical surveillance • Examinations will be: • at least semi-annually for other employees • whenever an employee shows signs/symptoms of toxic levels of exposure 6d
Medical surveillance • Examination includes: • work and medical history • posterior/anterior chest x-ray • nasal and skin examination • sputum cytology exam • any other tests deemed necessary 6e
Medical surveillance • Physician gives written opinion, including: • all test results • the physician’s opinion about employee’s medical condition • recommended limitations 6f
Medical surveillance • Physician gives written opinion, including: • a statement that the employee has been informed of results • if there is a need for further treatment 6g
Medical surveillance • Records are required to be retained by the employer: • X-rays for the most recent five years • Cytologic exam slide and written descriptions for the most recent five years 6h
