Does this describe you? • Constant rushing from one thing (place) to another • Frequently late to every thing • Low productivity, motivation, and/or energy • Easily frustrated/Very impatient • Inability to make decisions • Unable to set or accomplish goals • Procrastinator
Step 1: Analyze your time • What is the most productive period of the day? Why? • What was the least productive period of the day? Why? • Who or what were your interruptions? • How can those be minimized or eliminated? • What activities need more time and attention? • What activities need less time and attention?
Step 2: Create a Plan • Set goals • Daily • Weekly • Monthly • Long term • Set Priorities • Determine the order in which tasks should be completed • Due dates • Importance • difficulty
Step 3: Get Organized • Organize your work area • Create a to-do list • Group similar tasks • Simplify repetitive tasks • Handle paper once • Read it, route it, file it, answer it, or THROW IT AWAY!
Step 4: Conquer Procrastination • Focus on the task at hand • Establish deadlines and meet those deadlines • Tackle the most difficult tasks first • Let go of your perfectionism • Don’t put things off
Step 5: Avoid Interruptions • Set time aside to check, answer, and send email • Keep phone calls short and professional • Socialize on your break and at lunch but not in the office
Step 6: End of the day clean up • Take a few moments at the end of your day to: • Clean off your desk • Organize tasks for the next day • Leave your office neat and clutter free
