Andy Walton’sWeekly World Watch March 11 - 17 2007 “If the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes the life of one of them, that man will be taken away because of his sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for his blood.” Ezekiel 33:6

  2. What is this world watch all about? I decided each week to look at key events that had happened in that week and look at them with the Bible in hand. I hope to build up a picture of Gods hand working in the affairs of this world bringing about that day when all nations will be gathered to Jerusalem to battle which will be brought to end when the Lord Jesus Christ physically returns from heaven to set up Gods kingdom. The key areas which will crop up time and again will be • Israel – Middle East the growing conflict • Europe – the developing union / political and religious • Russia – continued turning back to anti west ways • The development of King of South – US & UK • Declining moral standards and increasing violence.   3. Weekly Developments These are just a few of the events that have caught my eye in the previous week. It is in no way meant to be exhaustive – just a look at those events I saw as significant from a Bible viewpoint. Headlines These are always headlines printed in the newspaper – the date is always given and which paper. Normally the Daily Telegraph. (DT) Event This is usually the newspapers take on the events that have happened. It will always be a direct quote from the newspaper. Comment This is my take on why it is interesting from a Bible point of view. The idea of this weekly world watch is to give a quick Biblical perspective without going into detail. If more detail is needed please email me. Bible Quote This is normally one verse which backs up why the event that has occurred is interesting from a Biblical perspective. As Syria prepares for war In Syria, Mr Solana held talks with President Bashar al-Assad Headline As Syria prepares for war Headline Jerusalem Post March 15 Event This has been a banner week for Syrian diplomacy. Tuesday, US Assistant Secretary of State for Refugees, Ellen Sauerbrey, became the first senior US official to visit Syria since February 2005. Following closely on Sauerbrey's heels was the EU's foreign policy chief Javier Solana. Unlike Sauerbrey, who came and left without making a sound, Solana used the occasion to drop a diplomatic bomb. Standing next to Syrian Foreign Minister, Solana announced, "We would like to work as much as possible to see your country Syria recuperate the territory taken in 1967." Israel should be very concerned by Solana's statement. Seventeen years ago, an American diplomat made a similar statement to another Arab dictator [Saddam Hussein]. It was swiftly followed by war. Solana's statement that Europe supports the reassertion of Syrian control over the Golan Heights came in the midst of a massive Syrian deployment of offensive weapons systems close to its border with Israel. Early this week, Israeli military commanders revealed that since last September, Syria has deployed between 1,000 and 3,000 missiles and rockets close to that border. Comment This truly is a diplomatic bomb shell! Europe (the beast of Revelation) says publicly that they would like to work “as much as possible” to see Syria “recuperate” land “taken” in 1967. In other words the fear in Israel is that Syria now has a green light to launch an offensive to get the Golan Heights. In 1990, Iraq invaded Kuwait. It did so thinking it had the American OK. War between Syria and Israel may be close. Bible Quote Isaiah 17 3 The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, Israel is in trouble when the kingdom of Syria ceases. Israel bows to Washington pressure The two men were meeting for the second time in a month Headline Israel bows to Washington pressure Headline Debkafile March 11 Event Prime minister Ehud Olmert conceded key Israeli policy points in his talks with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas in Jerusalem Sunday, March 11, according to DEBKAfile’s Middle East and Washington sources – contrary to advance statements from his office that the meeting was only a formality. Last week, Bush administration officials notified Olmert’s senor aides Yoram Turbovitch and Shalom Turjman in Washington that the wait for the Palestinians to comply with roadmap conditions to recognize Israel and renounce violence was at an end. Whether a Palestinian government was led by Hamas or shared with Fatah, they were told, Israel must now initiate final settlement talks with Abbas. Saudi and Jordanian leaders had won President George W. Bush over on this point as leverage for cooperation on the Iraq and Iranian issues.. Comment We have been tracking over recent weeks the behind the scenes push for peace between Israel and the Palestinians. It appears from a number of reports that America has bought into the Arab peace plan that Saudi Arabia and Jordan in particular are pushing. At his Sunday cabinet meeting, Mr Olmert said he was seriously considering the Saudi peace plan. The plan is for Israel to withdraw to the 1967 lines. Israel is being pushed to go into unconditional talks with the Palestinians – possibly in May. We are getting close perhaps to a peace agreement but a very dangerous one. It is a cry of peace that brings destruction to the land of Israel. Syria / Russia missile deal Headline Major Syrian missile purchase – one of several preparations for war - Geostrategy Direct March 14 Event Syria has concluded a $1-billion weapons deal with Russia, Israeli military sources said. The sources said Syrian President Bashar Assad agreed to purchase the S-300PMU anti-aircraft system and anti-tank guided missiles from Moscow. The first components of the strategic air defence system are to arrive in Syria this year. Israeli sources said Syria's military has bolstered its presence along the southern border in what appears to be preparation for war with Israel in 2007 or 2008. The Syrian military has been constructing bunkers to store weapons and protect troops from Israeli air attack, the sources said. "The Syrians have decided to buy the S-300," an Israeli source said. Russian President Vladimir "Putin has approved this, and the Syrians will embark on a process of rapid acquisition and deployment." Comment It is also reported that under this agreement that Damascus will allow Russia to expand naval base rights at two Syrian ports. Shimon Peres said that this deal “provides an incentive for Syria to go to war" . As Syria is not mentioned in Ezekiel 38 we might expect Syria to be “taken out” of the picture at some point. If war between Israel does occur we can see how Russia would quickly be involved as it has an increasing military presence in that country. The King of the north was essentially Syrian originally – it will be Russian in the future. Bible Quote Daniel 11 40 And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, The king of the north in Daniel 11 is the same as the Gog of the land of Magog in Ezekiel 38.

Putin meets with Pope Headline Putin Meets With Pope at the Vatican Headline BBConline March 13 Event Russian President Vladimir Putin has met Pope Benedict XVI for the first time during an official visit to Rome. The talks focused on easing tension between Roman Catholics and Orthodox Christians and finding common ground in denouncing intolerance and extremism. They also discussed the Middle East, but no details were given. The pair spoke mostly in German - the Pope's native language and the one used by Mr Putin during his years working for the KGB in the former East Germany. Comment In Revelation 16 we read of a dragon, a beast and a false prophet. The dragon represents the Eastern half of the Roman Empire ie Russia. The Beast represents the Western half – ie the EU, dominated by Germany. The false prophet is Roman Catholicism. So at this meeting we have the dragon, meeting the false prophet, speaking in the language of the beast! (German). From these 3 symbolic creatures come forth 3 froglike spirits (false promises) that gather ALL nations to the battle of Armageddon. From Russia came the false promise of Equality. In fact the opposite happened. A totalitarian society was born. From Western Europe came the false promise of Liberty through humanistic teachings. In the fact the opposite happened. A society in slavery to sin was born. From the false prophet came the false promise fraternity (brotherhood). In fact the opposite happened. This religion declared to be the MOTHER religion of all Christian religions and they were to be subject to her. The three are focussing on Israel. Bible Quote Rev 16 13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

New Palestinian unity government Headline New Palestinian unity government Headline BBConline March 17 Event Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas has urged the West to end its boycott of the Palestinian Authority and recognise the new government of national unity. He was speaking at a parliamentary session called to approve the cabinet made of rival Fatah and Hamas factions. The approval of the government of prospective PM Ismail Haniya of Hamas is expected to be a formality. The EU and UN have indicated there could be a softening, but Israel says the government is a step backwards. Mr Abbas also said the Palestinian people "reject violence in all its forms", and called for "mutual commitment by Israel to stop all violence". He said the Palestinians extended their hand to Israel to "achieve the peace of freedom and equality." Comment The new Palestinian unity government (being approved as I write these words) is an attempt to bring the international community back onside with the Palestinians. Israel has said it will “shun” the new government unless it renounces violence and Hamas says that Israel has a right to exist. Israel is dealing with Mr Abbas though. As reported above the EU has indicated already there could be a softening of its position. Note that Mr Abbas says that the Palestinians are extending their hand to Israel to achieve peace, freedom and equality. Froglike words again. It is a false promise of peace , a false promise of freedom and a false promise of equality. In fact the verse below makes clear that the Philistines (Palestinians?) want to destroy Israel. Bible Quote Psalm 83 4 They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. See verse 7

Mexico City embraces gay unions Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen: Revolutionary patriotism borrows familiar iconography of the Ten Commandments Headline Mexico City embraces gay unions Headline BBConline March 17 Event The first civil partnerships among same-sex couples in Mexico City have been celebrated under new legislation. The law, which came into effect in the capital on Friday, gives gay couples similar social and inheritance rights to heterosexual couples. Comment Gay “marriage” around the globe continues to be introduced. It was in Europe in the 1990’s that same-sex unions were first recognised. Denmark was the first in 1989. Then came Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Finland, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Germany, France, Luxembourg & Britain. Some US states came next, then Argentina, New Zealand and Canada. What was once immoral, what was once illegal, is now (in the world’s eyes) moral and legal. There is a reason why homosexuality began to be legalised in Europe first of all. Europe is the home of humanism and human rights. The declaration of the rights of man (which was one of the main documents of the French Revolution) states in article IV that “Liberty consists in the freedom to do everything which injures no one else; hence the exercise of the natural rights of each man has no limits.” In other words, man can do want he wants if he does not injure someone else. Two consenting adults therefore can do what they want - including sodomy. The froglike spirit of Liberty coming out of Europe has brought only slavery to sin. God WILL judge the world for these godless, wicked & false teachings of MAN. Bible Quote 2 Peter 2 19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.
