September 2009 It is important that you understand your role in a building evacuation in emergency situations such as, for ex., fire.It is important that you understand your role in a building evacuation in emergency situations such as, for ex., fire.

3. 3 ALARM! What to do? Make reasonably sure that everyone in your office, office suite, or classroom, evacuates immediately
Close office door behind you
4. ALARM! What Not to do? Do not try to use elevator in case of fire;
it will not function
Don’t spend time gathering your belongings
Do not go back for personal items

5. ALARM! What else to do, or not to do?
If you pass someone on the way out who is not evacuating ask the person to leave the building immediately but do not stop to search for people

6. 6 Emergency Exits You are required to know the location of at least two nearest to you emergency exits in the building;
Be aware where you are in the building at all times, and know how you would leave in an emergency situation;
Leave the building via the NEAREST emergency exit.

12. 12 People with Special Assistance Needs If a person with special assistance needs is on one of the levels of the Library, and you are nearby, help her/him to leave building by one of the available exits, if feasible
Otherwise, inform the emergency responders immediately upon vacating the building about this person’s last location
13. 13 Where to Go? Upon vacating the building move immediately away from the Library (at least 100 feet)
Do not block entrance routes to the building
Proceed to the designated gathering place: inside Eickhoff Hall
14. 14 Inform Somebody Do not leave Eickhoff Hall without letting someone from the library staff know that you are leaving
If your co-worker informs you that he/she is leaving, you must pass this information to a representative of the Library Administration immediately
15. 15 Actions strictly forbidden when alarm sounds Do not search for lingering users
Do not re-enter the Library building to retrieve personal things, or for any other reason
