EMERGENCY EVACUATION DEMONSTRATIONS • Full-scale done by manufacturer • Partial Evacuation Demonstration required for issuance of AOC • Full complement of crew members • 50% of slides deployed • No passengers
PROCEDURES FOR PARTIAL EVACUATION DEMONSTRATION • Planning meeting to discuss exact procedures and criteria • Require aircraft, flight crew and two complete cabin crew • Conducted in darkness • Aircraft electrical system powered • Simulate preparation for takeoff • Cabin attendants seated • Simulate take-off roll then electrical failure • Simulated fire to 50% of exits • 15 secs to fully deploy the slides
EVALUATION OF EVACUATION DEMONSTRATION • Adherence by flight and cabin crew to assigned duty • Effectiveness of PIC in exercise of command • Succession of command in event of casualties • Effectiveness of crew for evacuation duties • Shortcomings, deficiencies or delays
DITCHING • Demonstration required for Type Certification • Full scale demonstration by manufacturer • If aircraft not certified for ditching, extended overwater flights should not be authorized
PARTIAL DITCHING EVALUATION AREAS • Emergency training programme • Ditching procedures • Crewmember competency • Equipment adequacy and reliability
PROCEDURES FOR DEMONSTRATION • Conducted during daylight • All required crewmembers used • Passengers used only if procedures require • Simulate normal takeoff and climb to cruise • Captain will order crew to prepare for ditching • After 6 minutes simulated landing on water • Observe life preserver donning and life raft removal • One life raft will be selected for launch
EVALUATION OF DEMONSTRATION • Adequate equipment properly stowed • Slides, life jackets, rafts inflate as required • Crew use of correct procedures - training • Timely evacuation of aircraft • Time start to exit opening, life raft launched/inflated and when all rafts are boarded
