Personnel • Any individual that participates (in any manner) in the coaching of a team in practice, games or organized activity must be counted against that sports coaching limitations. • Ex. Head Coach, Associate Head Coach, Assistant Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Graduate Assistant Coach, e.g.
Personnel • Any individual that is involved in Non-coaching activities do not count against that sports coaching limit provided such individuals: • Are not identified as coaches • Are not involve in any 0ff-campus recruitment of PSA or scouting of opponents. • Do not engage in any on- or off-field coaching activities • Attending meetings involving coaching activities • Analyzing videotape or film involving the institution’s or opponent’s team • Ex. Administrative Assistants, Office Coordinator, Academic Counselors, Managers, Trainers, Director of Operations, Strength & Conditioning Coaches, Director of Player Personnel, Videographer, SID, etc.

Recruiting • REPRESENTATIVE OF ATHLETICS INTEREST • Promotes or has involvement in promoting the intercollegiate athletics department; • Made financial contributions to the athletics department or athletics booster club; • Assist or have been ask to assist in recruitment of prospective student-athletes; • Assist or have assisted in providing benefits to enrolled student-athletes or their parents;
Recruiting • CONTACT • Any face-to-face encounter and exchange of dialogue in excess of a greeting. • Any prearranged, face-to-face encounter even if no conversation occurs; or • Any face-to-face encounter at: • Prospect’s educational institution. • Site of organized competition or • Not a contact, provided: • The encounter was not prearranged; • There is no engagement in any dialogue in excess of a greeting; and • Appropriate steps are taken to terminate the encounter.
Recruiting • EVALUATION • Any off-campus activity designed to assess the academic qualifications or athletics ability of a prospective student-athlete; or • Observation of a prospective student-athlete participating in any practice or competition at any site. • Permissible for authorized athletics department staff members to be involved in off-campus activities designed to assess the academic qualifications and playing ability of prospective student-athletes.
Recruiting • Non-permissible: • Off-campus recruiting • Calling a PSA prior to PSA signing NLI. • Can not serve as host during PSA visit. • Permissible: • Can contact PSA on campus or within 30 miles of campus during PSA official visit • *This is not an exhaustive list, thus any activities not listed would have to be evaluated per institutional discretion.*

Practice & Playing • Countable Athletically Related Activities (CARA) • Required activity with an athletics purpose. • At the direction of or supervised by a coach. • Exclusions: • Administrative meetings. • Activities incidental to participation.
Practice & Playing • In-Season Hour Limitations • Maximum of 20 hours per week. • Maximum of four hours per day. • Golf practice rounds. • Multi-sport student-athletes. • Competition day = three hours.
Practice & Playing • Out-of-Season Hour Limitations • Must take two days off per week. • Limited to eight hours per week. • Prohibited one week prior to final exams until conclusion of final exams. • Permissible activities. • Weight training • Conditioning • Skill instruction or film review in football (limited to two hours per week).
Practice & Playing • Non-permissible: • Analyze videotape/film involving team or opponents • Scouting opponents • Observe practice for evaluation • Set up offenses, defenses, or strategy • Provide analysis of a practice strategy • *This is not an exhaustive list, thus any activities not listed would have to be evaluated per institutional discretion.*
Practice & Playing • Permissible: • Sit on bench • Work with Schedule • Assign Equipment • Splicing game film • Keeping play chart, statistics • Be in basketball huddle provided no coaching occurs • Observe practice (but not for evaluation) • *This is not an exhaustive list, thus any activities not listed would have to be evaluated per institutional discretion.*

Awards & Benefits • Definition of Extra Benefit • Any special arrangement by an institutional employee or a booster to provide a student-athlete or a student-athlete’s relative or friend a benefit not permitted by NCAA legislation. • A benefit that is generally available to the student body or a segment of the student body determined on a basis unrelated to athletics ability is permissible.
Awards & Benefits Non-Permissible • Use of institutional telephones, long distance access codes or credit cards for personal reasons. • Use of institutional copy machines and fax machines for personal reasons. • An automobile or use of an automobile. • Loan of money, signing or cosigning of loans or guarantee of bond. • Cash or like items (e.g., gift certificates). • Tangible items (e.g., clothing, cars, jewelry). • Impermissible academic services (e.g., typing reports, papers, letters for a student-athlete). Permissible • Tracking Academics (e.g., monitoring class attendance and tutoring attendance)
Awards & Benefits • Apparel/Equipment • Non-permissible • Give SA surplus or unused apparel • Give SA old or discarded equipment • SA may NOT purchase extra apparel or equipment for personal use at a reduced rate • SA may NOT sell apparel or equipment that was issued to them. • Permissible • SA can retain APPAREL items NOT equipment that they have used themselves. • Ex. Practice shorts, shirts, shoes and warm-ups. • SA can retain APPAREL items that are no longer being used by the team at the University’s discretion • Ex. Team received new uniforms and are no longer using the old. • SA can purchase used equipment at the same rate it would be offered to non-athletes
Awards & Benefits • Occasional Meals • Parent of a student-athlete. • At any location. • Institutional staff member. • Any location in the locale of the institution. • May provide reasonable local transportation to attend. • Representative of athletics interests. • Only in an individual’s home. • May provide reasonable local transportation only if the meal is in the home of the representative of athletics interests.
