  1. A PRESENTATION ON SOLAR WIND HYBRID SYSTEM BY SE (E) MADURAI

  2. BACKGROUND • For remote and inhospitable areas – Reliable Electricity supply is not available.

  3. BACKGROUND • Severe shortage of man-power in Telephone Exchanges – • Small Telephone Exchanges are unmanned. • Even refilling of diesel is a problem.

  4. BACKGROUND • Alternative approach is necessary : • Where demand is high. • Potential for renewable energy exists.

  5. BACKGROUND • One such site was identified (in co-ordination with Telecom) • KAVUNJI – located at considerable height on a hill top in the Western Ghats range.

  6. BACKGROUND • Reliable Electricity supply not available. • Substantial demand for Telecom services. • Load Demand of 5KVA (4KW)

  7. BACKGROUND • Solar wind hybrid energy system is proposed. • Solar Modules – 48V DC • 1000W wind turbines – 48V DC

  8. BACKGROUND • Battery – 48V deep cycle type for 2 days autonomy. • Controller for Solar DG & wind.

  9. MODUS OPERANDI • During period of bright sun light (peak summer & winter) solar energy charges the battery and creates enough reserve for darkness. • During monsoons etc., micro - wind generators produce most of the energy since wind speed is high.

  10. MODUS OPERANDI • Hybrid controllers combine both powers to charge the batteries or provide power to inverter. Inverter modulates this to quality power.

  11. FEATURES OFSOLAR MODULE • 15.64 KWp solar modules configured to 48V DC • Space required – 500 to 550 sq.mts

  12. FEATURES OF WIND GENERATOR • Aerofoil blades (3 Nos.) made of carbon / fibre composite material. • Self lubricated ceramic bearings. • Start up wind speed – 3mts/ sec

  13. FEATURES OF WIND GENERATOR • Built in brakes and angle governor to protect at higher wind speeds. • Turbine system interfaced with SMPS based charger. • Automatic regulation mode for over charge protection.
