Main Ideas • Stupa- a sacred site that houses the remains of a holy person. • Reincarnation- the wheel is a symbol of the unending cycle of birth and rebirth. • Calligraphy- a form of writing that decorates the wall of the mosques. • Ramayana & Mahabharata- Epic poems • In the late 1800’s, Afghanistan was a buffer state between Russia and British India.
Main Ideas continued • In a plebiscite, people vote on important issues. (constitutional issues, changes, etc.) • Conflict in Kashmir has led to increased tension between India and Pakistan. • Relations between India and Bangladesh have sometimes been strained because refugees from Bangladesh have flooded into India. • India’s foreign policy made them a leader among nonaligned nations.
