SERRC Work Group • Three years of meetings to share ideas and discuss issues • Very strong group with great collaboration • SERRC staff at GLARRC Summit • Joint Conference in Atlanta last May
GLARRC Summit • Iowa filled the Medicaid Consultant position in February 2002. • Through networking, found many other states in same situation (new staff). • As Minnesota and Iowa planned summit, GLARRC came on board with support. • Through collaboration, SERRC staff joined the meeting.
Summit Evaluations • Concern over Medicaid and Education speaking in different ‘languages’. • Need for consistency across CMS regions. • Need for a national organization. • Sharing of information across states. • Linkage of Medicaid and Education at both the state and federal levels.
NAME Steering Committee • From the GLARRC Summit there were six people stepping forward (3 RRCs). • Added Florida as the SERRC representative. • Washington and Vermont gave representation of each RRC for Education.
NAME Structure • Three membership levels • Each state will have two votes (Medicaid and Education) • LEAs will have two at large Board seats • Director to represent each CMS region • Encourage innovative ideas for collaboration
Current National Issues • MAC Guide from May of 2003 • Various OIG Audits • Medicaid vs Education terminology • HIPAA vs FERPA • Collaboration of various national organizations
NAME Future • We are NOT a lobbying group • We do want to share information among states • We do want to assist with developing a common language between Medicaid and Education • We do want to promote consistent policy at the state and federal levels
