The Pathwise Observation System. What is it?. Pathwise is an observation-based assessment system which aims to measure teacher effectiveness in a standardized way. ETS (makers of the GRE, SAT, and A.P. exams) developed Pathwise in order to consistently measuring teacher performance.

What is it? • Pathwise is an observation-based assessment system which aims to measure teacher effectiveness in a standardized way. • ETS (makers of the GRE, SAT, and A.P. exams) developed Pathwise in order to consistently measuring teacher performance. • Many states and districts use this form for teacher evaluation purposes. • COE uses this as one measure of your growth as a teacher.
What are the Pathwise Domains? • Pathwise looks at four domains of teaching. • A: Organizing Content Knowledge for Student Learning • B: Creating an Environment for Student Learning • C: Teaching for Student Learning • D: Teacher Professionalism
Where do I get the forms? • http://www.berrysclass.net/inttch.html Look under the Pathwise section at the top. • I would print out a few blank ones and keep them on hand. You never know when you might need one
How do I do it? • With your mentor teacher, decide what you want to co-teach and when you want to be observed. (Be mindful of the “observation window.”) • Sign up for an observation. • Co-write and submit your lesson plan to Kevin 48 hours before your scheduled observation.
What else do I do? • The morning of your observation, each complete the pre-observation interview page. Kevin will try to drop by to chat with you before your observation. • Give your pre-observation pages to Kevin when he arrives to observe you. • Teach your heart out, and watch your students learn. • After you are finished, complete your post-observation summary sheet and put in Kevin’s mailbox by the end of the day. • You will arrange to have a post-observation meeting with Kevin.
You mean there is more? • Kevin will write summary statements that explain how great you are. He might give you a few ideas about what you might want to explore doing in the future. • You will sign the form, and it will go into your folder. • You will use what you’ve learned in this experience every day in your placement, and apply it to your next observation.
