How it Began • Late 1880’s it sprung up along the Oregon Short Line Railroad • South of the Snake River and north is the Bennett Mountains • 1907 Irrigation brought to Bliss
Opening of Bliss • 1880 Bliss had a store and a Saloon • 1910 grand opening of Bliss as a town • Ranchers and farmers were well established • David and Lydia Bliss the founders
Contribution to WWI • By 1912 Bliss’s population and population grew • WWI is coming • Bliss grew due to the demand for horses and cattle
What was Bliss’s part • Gooding County Leader, advertised that all possible horses be sold to the American and British Cavalry and artillery • Wild Horses rounded up
Bliss goes to war • Many of the residents had patriotism, and joined the war effort • In 1918 After the Armistice Bliss celebrated with a parade
Bliss is still here • During 1921 to 1933 like the rest of America Bliss was hit hard by the Great Depression • In 1934 the area got hit hard by drought • many moved on, but many stayed • 1983 Bliss celebrated its centennial • Bliss survives today
