STEPS TO BE FOLLOWED DURING LABOUR • If mum is in the middle of delivering another puppy clear the sac that the puppy is in, and quickly dry them against the grain of their fur with a clean cloth. • Pop your clean little finger inside their mouth to scoop anything out and wipe their nose in cases where fluid is found in their airways.
STEPS TO BE FOLLOWED DURING LABOUR • Rub the puppy with a towel • Encourage them to cry, as this will clear any fluid that they may have swallowed. • Cut the umbilical cord of an earlier born puppy if the mum is in the middle of delivering another puppy. STEPS TO BE FOLLOWED POST LABOUR • Stays with her puppies most of the time in their first few weeks • Food and water should be taken to the nesting area as she doesn’t need to leave her pups • Food should be made available for her to eat whenever she's ready for it. • Plenty of water should be made available to drink as the mom is producing a lot of milk
