Objectives of conveyor belt AMC Uninterrupted production Reliability Maintenance costs Unexpected downtime Safety features What is belt tracking? Consistent belt tracking is conducted to promise trouble free and safe operations. The conveyor belt system has to function independently without any assistance for a reasonable period of time. Belt tracking is all about efficiency, reliability and safety.
Conveyor belt has to be in top condition to avoid material spillage at transfer point, to prevent damage to the conveyor belt edges, prevent damage to conveyor components and prevent structural damage. Belt mistracking is the root cause for reduced belt life, spillage and structural damage. The conveyors will not track all operating conditions, hence work towards rectifying the faults.
Cause for misalignment Material spillage: Cleanliness is the key to good belt tracking. Foreign matter could create a new roll. Ineffective scrapers and poorly designed or maintained transfer points can causes misalignment. There are different scrapers available for different applications to provide solutions for material spillage. Belt loading not central: Gravity is the key to provide a balance in the belt operations.
Extreme weather conditions like strong wind, rain, snow could cause slippage and lead to belt damage. If there is not enough tension in the belt it could conform to crown on head pulley. The belt is tensioned to eliminate slippage. Uneven roller size could cause mistracking of the belt Belt camber percentage should not exceed ½ %. In such cases contact the manufacturer immediately.
Belt storage has to be horizontal and not vertical. Belt camber Disobeying Rule Zero Belt Training process starts at the head pulley end of the return belt with the work on the return idlers in the direction of the belt travel to the tail end. The belt wander has to face the direction of the belt travel.
