SWITZERLAND TOP ATTRACTIONS TOP ATTRACTIONS NATIONAL GALLERY OF VICTORIA THE MATTERHORN SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE JUNGFRAUJOCH The Jungfraujoch is an alpine attraction and viewing point, at an altitude of 3454 m. It is located in between the well-known mountains Mönch and Jungfrau, in the heart of the UNESCO Natural World Heritage property "Jungfrau - Aletsch - Bietschhorn". At 4,478 metres, the majestic Matterhorn, being the iconic peak in Switzerland, looms over the breath-taking Alpine panorama. It is one of the highest mountains in the Alps straddling between Switzerland & Italy. The pyramid-shape mountain was formed after two landmasses crashed into each other millions of years ago, forcing the ground upward. The resulting pyramid- shaped peak has four distinct sides that align with the cardinal directions: north, south, east and west. The cogwheel train is the only way to get there. The train station is the highest one in Europe. There is no place to stay overnight, and just a handful of restaurants. The train trip to visit for a day and the experience are, however, unforgettable.
SWITZERLAND TOP ATTRACTIONS ZURICH LUCERNE Culturally vibrant, efficiently run and attractively set at the meeting of river and lake, Zurich is regularly recognised as one of the world's most liveable cities. It is the largest city in Switzerland and a hub for railways, roads, and air traffic. Lucerne, the gateway to central Switzerland, sited on Lake Lucerne, is embedded within an impressive mountainous panorama. It is stunning and deservedly popular since the likes of Goethe, Queen Victoria and Wagner savoured its views in the 19th century. With a magnificent view of the snow- capped Alps on the horizon, Zurich offers a unique mixture of attractions including the Swiss National Museum. For beautiful views of Lucerne, the Alps, and the lake, ride the funicular to the Dietschiberg on the north side of Lake Lucerne, cruise up Mt. Pilatus on the cableway, or head to the Rigi, a famous lookout point.
