It is one of the largest islands off the eastern Malay Peninsula but it is small enough that visitors can get around on foot, either on roads or trekking through the jungle. The highest peak of the mountain can easily be climbed by a person with good physical condition, and requires no mountaineering equipment, although climbers are accompanied by guides at all times.
