www.catking.in Bar Graph- Data Interpretation CAT 2018
Introduction: • Bar Graph makes the comparative study of data very easy. • Vertical or Horizontal equidistant bars are given to interpret the data to deduce the required information. • Most common form is the Vertical Bar Graph also called a Column Graph. • Bar Graph consists of- Simple Bar Graph Subdivided Bar Graph Multiple Bar Graph • A Bar Graph is 1 dimensional as only the length of the bar is considered.
Simple Bar Graph: • A simple bar chart is used to represent data involving only one variable. • Variablesare classified on spatial, quantitative or temporal basis.
Subdivided Bar Graph: • Subdivided Bar Graph is also called Component or Stacked Bar • Graph. • Thebar is divided into several components to represent a set of • quantities according to the different proportions of the total • amount.
Multiple Bar Graph: • Multiple Bar Graph displays two or more sets of data at once for • easy comparison purpose. • The technique of simple bar chart is used to draw this diagram • but the difference is that we use different shades, colors, or dots • to distinguish between different phenomena.
Practice Question: The following bar chart shows the composition of the GDP two countries (India and Pakistan). Composition of GDP of Two Countries

What fraction of India's GDP is accounted for by Services ? A) (6/33)th B) (1/5)th C) (2/3)rd D) None of these 3. Which country accounts for higher earning out of Services and Miscellaneous together ? A) India B) Pakistan C) Both spend equal amounts D) Cannot be determined
Practice Question: Answers: • c) Explaination: 20% of 10000 = 2000 2.b Explanation: Service accounts for 20%, i.e., (1/5)th of the GDP of India. 3. d Explanation: Cannot comment on this since we have no data about the respective GDP's.
