I was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition when I was in my late teens as a result of the go-go-go, eat-what-you-want, and take-a-pill-to-fix- your-issues culture that I grew up in and which is still pervasive in our society. I know times are changing and being part of that movement is what gets me up every morning – but there is still a lot of work to do! Once I took charge of my health after I made the decision that I was not comfortable simply taking a drug to suppress my symptoms, I commenced my healing journey. Additionally, with the help of naturopathic medicine I have been able to decrease the stress and anxiety that is almost inevitable with our lifestyles. I divided my time between the Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic and a truly unique integrative clinic called Brampton Naturopathic Teaching Clinic (BNTC). The BNTC is Canada’s first naturopathic clinic located in a hospital – the Brampton Civic Hospital. I was lucky enough to be the first cohort to have spent the entire clinic year at the BNTC where integrative medicine is the goal.
