  2. Here at Charleston Hematology Oncology Associates we have the new DIGNICAP technology that allows patients to keep their hair during treatment. It is currently only FDA approved for Women with Breast Cancer. We are 1 of 10 practices around the country with this machine. The machine works by cooling the scalp causing a reduced blood flow to that area so that less chemotherapy reaches the hair follicles. Therefore this reduces chemotherapy-induced hair loss. Prior to this system, patients were required to use manual cold caps kept in freezers and dry ice. Patients would have to change them every 30 minutes to ensure the scalp would remain chilled. Now, you can sit comfortably in your chair with a fitted cap for the duration of your treatment.
