Dust is everywhere and comes from everything. From your shoes and clothing, to your furniture and through your windows, you’ll never be able to eliminate it completely from your home, but there are things you can do to minimize it and keep it at a manageable level. Replace all your filters: Clean air filters can do their job properly, and therefore help you to keep dust from overwhelming your home. The filters in air conditioning systems and heaters should be cleaned at least once a month to ensure that they’re working efficiently and helping to keep the air circulating through your home.
Trap dust with microfiber cloths: You can even buy microfiber mittens nowadays, and so simply slipping one on your hands and sweeping them over all dusty surfaces, couldn’t be easier or quicker. Start from the top of the room and work your way down, with tall bookshelves and ceiling fans your first port of call; doing these last will mean that you need to dust the lower levels again, and you really don’t want to be wasting your time in such a manner.
Use damp cloths wherever possible: While water may not be good for all surfaces, plastic, metal and glass can all be wiped down with a damp cloth to help you capture extra dirt and dust. Stubborn dust that has been accumulating in hard to reach areas of your home, can be easily picked up and disposed of with a damp cloth, and window blinds would benefit from this, too. Sweep and vacuum regularly: Dust, dirt and pet hair can quickly accumulate in your carpets and in the corners of your tiled or wooden flooring, and nothing can look worse than a dirty floor.
The only way to prevent this is to sweep and/or vacuum regularly, and not just when you can see the dust either, since it will be there whether you can see it or not. Mop the floors: While sweeping and vacuuming will work wonders in helping to get rid of dust, you need to follow up with a wet mop for the best results, and to help keep your floors smelling fresh and clean, too. Natural cleaners such as vinegar and lemon juice are just as good as store bought products and are much friendlier to the environment and your pocket.
Try to do a little light dusting every day: You’ll be amazed at what a difference this can make, and while it of course takes a little effort, it doesn’t take too much, and almost all of us can find some time to dust the most frequently used areas of our home. If your home is a haven for dust and you simply don’t have the time or energy to tackle it yourself, then why not call in the professionals and have them get your home dust free in next to no time.
