  1. Food and Beverages you should avoid when you have a cough Artificial Essence Artificial essence is something that you should avoid, especially when you are down with a sore throat. Essence tends to irritate the throat and slows down the recovery process from the ailment. Essence often causes allergic reactions and is a cause for worsening asthma symptoms too. Cold Food and Drinks Cold food and drinks often trigger a cough reflex right after consumption. It is best to avoid any kinds of cold drinks such as cold coffee, chilled juice, and food like ice- cream when you have a cough, making sure that your cough medicine helps you make a full recovery without any hiccups from external sources.

  2. Sugar Over the years sugar has been one ingredient that has been constantly researched, and research suggests that excess intake of sugar can lead to your immune system being suppressed, especially when it is burdened by trying to fend off viral infections. Sugar will only make your cough worse, and cough remedies will have to work harder if you don’t avoid it during your recovery period.Extra Spicy Food Though counterintuitive, since ingredients like ginger which are primarily heat causing and spicy are recommended when you have a cough, excess spice from chillies and other persevered condiments like pickle causes irritation and a burning sensation at the back of your throat, making your sore throat worse. Fried Food Fried food, especially deep-fried food using excess oil can be a hinderance when you have a cough and should be avoided as much as possible. A known ingredient to trigger and worsen a cough, oil aggravates the symptoms making it much harder to recover in a timely manner.
