The mattress cover has a mount that allows you to securely fix it on the berth. Some models allow you to change the stiffness of the bed. Mattress protectors , which are used to change the rigidity of the mattress, increase the height or smooth the roughness of the bed, are called orthopedic or corrective. Fabric mattress covers that protect the mattress from contamination, damage or premature wear are called protective . Some models are equipped with an internal polyurethane membrane that does not allow fluid to pass through but does not interfere with air circulation. Protective mattress covers can be machine washed. Mattress covers are attached to the mattress with four elastic bands at the corners or are held on an elastic band, which is sewn along the entire perimeter of the sidewall. The latter option provides more reliable fixation and protection of not only the upper, but also the lateral parts of the mattress. A special kind of mattress covers is zippered protective covers that cover the mattress from all sides. Dimensions The length and width of the Mattress protectors should match the mattress. When choosing a protective cover or mattress cover with sidewalls, you must also consider the height of the mattress. Mattress covers with elastic bands at the corners are more versatile, as they are worn on almost any mattress. An exception may be only mattresses with a height of more than 30 cm.

  2. Fillers and Rigidity As a filler for orthopedic mattress covers, both natural and artificial materials are used: polyurethane foam , felt, linen and materials with a memory effect. Mattress covers filled with natural or artificial latex are usually purchased for sofas - they are quite flexible, so they can be easily folded and removed along with the folding mechanism of the sofa. Mattress covers made of elastic materials - coconut fiber or stratofiber - are bought to level the bed. To soften the bed, you can use a mattress pad filled with natural latex, polyurethane foam or materials with a memory effect. A tougher berth will be made by a mattress cover made of coconut fiber, flax or holofiber. If stiffness is needed or you want to periodically change, you can think about acquiring orthopedic mattress covers that contain a combination of layers of different stiffness. The most popular fillers for these mattress covers are latex and coconut fiber. The latter material hardly bends under the weight of the sleeping person, and natural latex in combination with coconut creates a comfortable medium hardness. Case The outer part of the mattress covers is usually made of jacquard and knitted fabric. Other types of fabric: calico , satin , microfiber and terry . “Winter” cases of covers are covered with natural wool or quilted on it. Some models of mattress covers are impregnated with an antibacterial composition or treated with silver ions, which prevent the penetration of dust mites, pathogenic bacteria, fungus and mold into the mattress.
