  2. Drug tests • There are a different types of drug tests and each requires different kinds of specimen for analysis. One of which is the use of hair sample for drug test. • More precise • Non-offensive • Does not require isolated area for sample collection

  3. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration • “Samhsa” requires most employers to screen for 5 commonly used drugs • Amphetamines • Cocaine • Marijuana • Opiates • phencyclidine (PCP)

  4. Drug metabolites in the hair • Drug metabolites can be found in the body fluids and on the hair. Drug test analyzes the inner portion of the hair; the hair cortex. Drug metabolites can still be found in the hair even as hair follicles develop.

  5. Hair sample • What to check for in your hair sample • About an inch and a half long • 50-100 strands • Hair must be cut nearest to the scalp • Body hair can also be tested • Fallen hair is not a good sample for age of the hair cannot be determined and as to whose hair it was

  6. Prior to use, it usually takes 5 days for drug metabolites to reach the scalp. Thus, hair drug test cannot be conducted just after drug use. • Hair drug test is capable of drug detection which happened for the past 3 months
