The YAG capsulotomy procedure is extremely secure and has very few complications. The intraocular lens (IOL) is implanted into the capsular bag after cataract surgery, which is a thin, clear membrane that holds and maintains the IOL in the eye. The posterior capsule, the membrane that supports the rear of the IOL, may thicken and become cloudy over time, resulting in reduced vision. This happens in about 10% of people after cataract surgery, but it is treatable by making an opening in the capsule with a YAG laser. Dr Joanne Goh is a Melbourne-based yag laser capsulotomy.
