EAH Housing has been serving as an affordable housing nonprofit organization since the 1960s. Here is a brief glimpse into where it all started and how far it's come.

initsfiftyyearsservingthewesternUnitedStates. EAHHousing hascomealong way Foundedin1968, EAHHousingwasoriginallyformedbya groupofordinarycitizensseekingtobetterthelivesoflow- incomefamiliesinMarinCounty, California. TheEcumenical AssociationforHousing, asitwascalled, cametogetherasa responsetoDr. MartinLutherKing, Jr.’sassassination.
Whentwenty-four localorganizations organizedthemselveslaterthatyear toestablishthefirstoffice, EAHwasborn. Volunteerstookto variousrolesandflourished. Whethertheyweredonating landtodevelopaffordablehousingcommunitiesorsimply welcominglow-incomefamiliesbyadvocatingthattheyturn theirownneighborhoodsintoaffordablehousing, eachjob playedanimportantroleinexpandingEAHHousingandits influenceinthecommunity. 1971sawthetheunveilingofPilgrimPark, theinaugural affordablehousingcommunitydevelopedbyEAHin conjunctionwithalocalchurch. PilgrimParkwasthefirst affordablehousingcommunityinitscounty, fundedby federalprograms, thatwasnotgovernment-ownedpublic housing.
thatitsoonspreadtoothercountiesandacrosstwostates: Californiaand Theeffortsof EAH Hawai`i, servingmorethanfiftymunicipalitiestoday. Residentsagesoneto ninety-eighthaveallfoundhomeswithEAHHousing, anaccomplishment thatspeakstoitslevelofdedicationandevolutionasanonprofit. What startedoutasameansforsocialjusticehassincebloomedintoa comprehensiveorganizationthatseekstoincreasepublicengagementand WERESOSUCCESSFUL cementprogressinhousinglow-incomeseniors, families, veteransandthe disabled. KalaniGardensandKukuiTowerweretwoofthefirstaffordablehousing communitiesEAHacquiredinHawai`i, preserving499rentalhousing apartmentsforlow-incomefamiliesinthemostunderservedstateinthe countryforaffordablehousing. Thesetwocommunitieswereonlythestartof manymoretocome, asEAHHousingcontinuestotransformandcreate communitiesalongthePacificOcean.
Eachday EAHcontinuestostrivetowardssocialjusticethrough dedicationandempathyasitservesCaliforniaandHawai`i citizensalike. EAHHousing.org
