Exam Locations: N/A Experience Requirement: Apprentices in barbering and cosmetology must: (1) Be at least 16 years of age; (2) Complete the 10th grade in a California public school or its equivalent; (3) Provide evidence acceptable to the bureau that the apprentice training received shall be conducted in a licensed establishment under the supervision of a licensed trainer approved by the bureau; and, (4) Complete the required pre-apprentice training of 39 hours for barbers or for the length of time established by the board for cosmetologists in a facility approved by the bureau prior to serving the general public.
