Bladder Leakage Overview and What to Do

If you constantly have sudden urges to pee, you could be having an Overactive Bladder (OAB) or urge incontinence. If you lose control of the urge and bladder leakages start occurring, that makes it incontinence. The condition, in many cases, is treatable if you see an expert before it escalates.

  1. Bladder Leakage Overview and What to Do Bladder leakages affect millions of people who suffer silently due to the surrounding stigma. Different data shows that at least 33 million Americans fight a type of urinary incontinence or bladder condition, including bladder leakageissues. While this is a common problem, most people consider it “normal” and do not look for long-lasting solutions. There are different conditions that may cause urine leaks. Some of these problems include urinary retention, overactive bladder, stress urinary incontinence, and mixed incontinence, among others. If you suspect you may have one of them, it is advisable to see a medical expert before your problem escalates. What is Incontinence The NCI Dictionary of Cancer Terms gives the Definition of Incontinenceas the inability to control the flow of urine from the bladder (urinary incontinence) or the escape of stool from the rectum (fecal incontinence). If you have an overactive bladder, you may have to fight urinary leaks, especially when doing normal chores, at the gym, when you sneeze or laugh, or when you do some heavy lifting. However, understanding the problem could help you find a comprehensive solution. Overactive Bladder If you constantly have sudden urges to pee, you could be having an Overactive Bladder (OAB) or urge incontinence. If you lose control of the urge and bladder leakages start occurring, that makes it incontinence. The condition, in many cases, is treatable if you see an expert before it escalates. Urinary Retention Urinary retention happens when one is either unable to start urination, or the flow is weak. This may be followed by the urge to pee again immediately after visiting the bathroom because the bladder is not fully emptied. This may cause great pain and discomfort.

  2. Mixed Incontinence Mixed incontinence is a mix of urge incontinence and stress incontinence. One symptom may be more severe than the other, which may directly affect or determine the treatment methods to choose. Stress Urinary Incontinence Also abbreviated as SUI, the condition happens as a result of weak pelvic floor muscles. The weakness causes the bladder to leak and release urine involuntarily. What to Do If you have bladder leaks, the following lifestyle changes and habits can help: Avoid too much fluid before bed Avoid diuretic foods and drinks, including alcohol, caffeine, and acidic foods Take enough water to prevent body waste build-up in the kidneys Try bladder voiding and training Strengthen your pelvic floor muscles using Kegels Maintain a healthy weight Quit smoking If the symptoms persist, always consult a medical expert.
