How to Prepare for Your Move in Day phenixtitle.com/blog/posts/tips/how-to-prepare-for-your-move-in-day As you prepare to move into your new home, there are a few things you should take care of as soon as you arrive. To help you remember these things, check out this post. What to Do As You Move Into Your New Home So, you found your dream home, made an offer, and it was accepted. After closing the deal, you're eagerly awaiting your move-in day, but besides moving your whole life into a new home, what else should you expect? If this is your first time moving into a new home, you may be a bit lost trying to prepare for your move-in day. Luckily, Phenix Title Services has some tips that can help make it all a breeze. Forward Your Mail Before your moving day even arrives, there are some things that will need to be sorted to make your life easier. To start, be sure the post office knows about your change of address. You don't want to miss any important bills or mail because you forgot to fill out a change of address form. Doing this isn't very hard at all and can actually be done on the USPS website. After doing that, call up your service providers to set up a disconnect date for the day you plan to leave your current address and a connect date for the day you plan to move in to your new home. Get the House Super Clean 1/3

  2. If you new home isn't too far from your current home, you may want to head over on a weekend and take a look at the condition it's in. When old tenants move out they usually do some cleaning, but you can't be too sure how thorough their cleaning will be. You may find that you will have to do some extra cleaning to get it perfect for your move. If the home has carpeting, hire a carpet cleaning service to get the carpets back to their best, especially if the previous tenants had pets in the home. Change the Locks If you're visiting the home to do some cleaning before moving in, this is also the perfect time to get the locks changed on exterior doors. Even if you completely trust the previous homeowners, you never know who they may have given spare keys to. For more peace of mind and safety reasons, it's best to have the locks changed before you move anything into your home. Changing the locks also doesn't take much time, so you can easily get this done while you clean. If you're still in search of your perfect home, you understand just how important title insurance is during the closing process. Skipping out on title insurance can put your home investment at risk. Test the Appliances Now that all the pre-move stuff has been taken care of, it's time to address what you'll need to check on as you move in. Start off by testing your appliances. Plug in the refrigerator, stove, and any other appliances that need to be connected. Test them out to ensure they're in working condition. Although you probably won't show up with tons of groceries, it's better that you know sooner rather than later if there is a problem with the refrigerator or any of the other appliances. Find the Electrical Panel Next up is locating the electrical panel as well as the main water shutoff valve. These will be super important during home emergencies, so make sure other adults in your home can locate them and that everyone knows how to work them. Speaking of emergencies, everyone in your household should also be able to identify where the fire extinguishers in the home are located and know how to use them. Finally, test all of the smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. Have some fresh batteries on hand just in case these need new batteries. Inspect the Home Unpacking is going to take a while, so don't try to get it all done in one day. Take things slow and make time to inspect the home as you work. As you start moving things into one room, 2/3

  3. walk around the space and test the electrical outlets, check the windows for cracks, and check out the plumbing. This should have been covered during your home inspection, but if the house has been empty for a while, new problems may have come up. If you find a leak, a crack, or any other issue, make a note to fix it as soon as possible.
