About Alcala la Real My short-term volunteering project took place in Alcala la Real. It was a project within the European Solidarity Corps between two organizations: FRSP and Verde Sur. „The noble and loyal city of Alcalála Real, as its title reads, is situated in the south of the province on the border with Cordoba and Granada, on a wide plain, dominated by the Hill of La Mota, in the centreof a mountainous region covered with olive groves.” https://www.andalucia.org/en/alcala-la-real https://media.traveler.es/photos/6137635ff130191a954c6f99/master/w_1600%2Cc_limit/188434.jpg
SAFA At SAFA we helped with preparing the hall for the lunch time. Later we distributed the food and then played with the kids until their parents picked them up.
CRISTO REY We distributed food and prepared the tablesduring the lunch time.
CARITAS We helped the workers pack the packages with food, clothes, and other necessities for the local people.
CRUZ ROJA Here, once a week, we helped the kids with fewer opportunities do their homework and school stuff. After that, we spent time with them to get to know them.
GARDEN Here we could spend time with fellow volunteers and bond. We also planted many plants which we later could eat (like spinach etc.) We painted flowerbeds and took care of plants that already were there.
WORKSHOPS Every week, art workshops were held in Edificio Joven (the main office). They differed every week- we were painting, making bracelets, molding clay and many more.
CAFE DE IDIOMAS Meetings with the people of Alcala and other volunteers to bond and play games.
TRAVELS Even though I was volunteering only for 2 months, I managed to see many cities (Granada, Cordoba, Malaga, Jaen, Sewilla)
SUMMARY I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity I was given to volunteer in Spain. I spent wonderful 2 months here and I wish I could stay longer. I met many amazing people, created beautiful memories, contributed to the local good, and developed as a person. I highly recommend taking part in European Solidarity Corps projects. That has been the best adventure of my life!
