Objetivo: cuantificar los residuos en la Región .Metropolitana en base a declaración de empresas. SITUACIÓN ACTUAL DE LOS RESIDUOS SÓLIDOS EN LA R. M. En la Región Metropolitana, se genera sobre el 50% de los residuos producidos en el país, los que equivalen aproximadamente a 5.752.100 ton/año de residuos. El 98% de la población de la R.M. dispone sus RSD en un sitio autorizado, a través del sistema municipal, quienes mayoritariamente licitan el servicio a empresas privadas FLUJO DE LOS RESIDUOS SÓLIDOS DOMICILIARIOS EN LA R M DISPOSICIÓN FINAL DE LOS RESIDUOS EN CHILE Generación Disposición Ilegal Recuperación Y Reciclaje Industrias Disposición final Transporte y Recolección Estación de Transferencia SITUACIÓN REGIÓNAL DICIEMBRE 2004 Conclusiones:Las características técnicas y de gestión, el sistema tarifario, el marco regulatorio, las normativas legales y los mecanismos de participación ciudadana de los sistemas de manejo vigentes se ha logrado que el 98% de la población de la Región Metropolitana de Chile dispone sus residuos en vertederos autorizados. Respecto a las instalaciones de disposición final se trabaja en las modificaciones técnicas necesarias para velar por la seguridad ambiental y sanitaria de la población.
