NHS providers will be assessed against those standards via the core standards declaration in November 2009

5. The difference registration will make The new system means that people who use services right across the care spectrum can expect all registered providers to meet the same set of essential standards of quality and safety and to respect their dignity and rights.
It also marks a change from regulation that is mainly based on systems, processes and policies to one that is based on outcomes, what constitutes a quality experience for people who use services.
Continual monitoring and checking will make sure that potential problems are identified early and that swift action is taken where services are failing people.
The system will also make it easier for people to compare one provider with another, and for providers to work together or properly ‘join up’ in delivering care.
People can expect to get safe and quality care no matter which part of the care system they experience and geographically.

14. How we monitor compliance Once an organisation is registered with us, we will monitor compliance on an ongoing basis.
We are setting up an online profile for each provider which will be fed with robust intelligence from a number of sources.
We are increasing the levels of intelligence that can come from people who use services, their carers and families, staff and other visitors who are on site regularly and these will inform the profiles we hold.
We will also work effectively in partnership with other regulatory bodies, taking their data into account and using their findings where possible rather than duplicating their work.
Our inspectors and assessors will be alerted to any new information in the profile which could pose a risk to compliance with the essential standards of quality and safety.
