What is the Health Action Zone?. A multi-sectoral partnership which works to reduce inequalities and promote the health, wellbeing and safety of the population of North and West Belfast.     2. What is the Health Action Zone? A multi-sectoral partnership which works to reduce inequalities and promote the health, wellbeing and safety of the population of North and West Belfast

Partnership All HAZ work is premised on partnership working: Between statutory organisations Between statutory organisations and community + voluntary organisations Often performs a brokering role, facilitating dialogue between a range of organisations Community Participation - to strengthen community participation throughout HAZ work - team of 3.5 - 1 is CDW. E.g CEG/Partnership Boards/CHIW TG2 - to ensure the engagement of young people and agencies working with them in order that key issues of need are addressed. Child Safety Forum - to bring together all those within the HAZ who have a role in promoting child safety and child protection. HLC Network-to create a means for sharing information and learning among the 8 in HAZ and 2 in other parts of the city. Evaluation and Research -commission an evaluation of partnership working and agree a framework for overall HAZ evaluation. - impact of automatic external defibrillators/ special support interventions with disadvantaged pregnant women/range of other progs. Information Database - extended and used to inform development pathways - occasional papers and increased access on website. Need is most acute Change is most feasible Opportunities for multi-agency co-operation are greatest Ensuring maximum effectiveness and collaboration Designing joint interventions that will deliver improvements in key indicators of health and wellbeing which are greater than if each of the agencies were left to choose their own independent intervention. Complex idea put simply - the sum of the parts add up to more collectively than the individual elements. Current Development Pathways Travellers – health and accommodation needs Communities in Schools – making the school a resource for the community, and the community a resource for the school Travellers - to ensure a multi-agency approach to address the needs of the Travelling community - evaluated Schools - to address the needs of pupils, parents and communities though the CIS programme -evaluated Neighbourhood - to co-ordinate the activity of a range of organisations to address areas of inequality on a geographical/neighbourhood basis - GS21 -evaluated LTU - to explore new ways of addressing the needs of long term unemployed people and their families. Integrated Development for YP-to create new ways of meeting the needs of young people and delivering services/co-ordinate the programmes aiming to promote the sexual health of YP. Early Years -to ensure better provision of early years support to c’ren in N&W Mental Health and Wellbeing - to explore how the mental health and wellbeing needs of HAZ residents can be identified and addressed as part of a post- settlement community building process/explore development of co-ordinated approach to Drugs and Alcohol across Zone.
