Course Concept • Introduce First Year Student to International Study • Chronological and interdisciplinary examination of the culture, society, and history of the Bahamas
Location • Freeport on Grand Bahama Island for 5 days • 55 miles off the cost of Florida • Nassau for 2 days • Bahamas capital city
In-Country Accommodations • Students will stay in modest, well-located hotels while in the Grand Bahama • The will spend one night with a host family in Nassau
In-Country Activities Visit Schools People to People Spend a Sunday with a Bahamian Family experiencing: Worship Service Tradition Family Meal Sunday Social Gathering • Mainstream elementary school • Gifted school for the mentally, emotionally, and physically challenged
In-Country Activities Island Tour College of Bahamas Experience Meet and socialize with college students Tour the campus Attend a class • Lucayan National Park Tour • Industrial Plants and Businesses • Neighborhoods
In-country Activities Cultural Emersion Tourist Attractions Dolphin Experience Karaoke Port Lucayan Market Lucayan Beach • Conch Shell Demonstration • Bahamian Craft Clinic • Fish Fry
In-country Activities Meeting with Dignitaries Experience Bahamian Government Tea with the Governor General Spend a day with a government official Meet the Ministry of the Chamber of Commerce • Pool side chats with Bahamian authors • Meet the Captain of the Bahamian Police Force • Meet with the President of the College of Bahamas
How to Apply Application Pre-destination Requirements Active participation in one of the following: Access Collaborative, Bridge Program, Bell Resource Center, Mentoring Program, MAP, YSP Passport Enroll and Pass Winter quarter ASC 289 • Apply on line • http://oia.osu.edu/content/ • Recommendation letter • High School Teacher or advisor • Verification of OMA program participation • Interviewwith • Program Directors • OIA Representative
Program cost and expenses Pre-destination Study Abroad Program Flight, Hotel, Excursions, and all meals included Fees due with Winter Quarter tuition • Application fee $150.00 due at the time of application (Refundable if not chosen to attend) • Tuition for pre-destination course
