Training Goals • Provide a consistent message on why we are doing Activity Based Costing • Review the DOI/bureau business rules surrounding time entry • Allay fear of change that comes with implementing Activity Based Costing Department-wide Training – ABC
Overview – ABC Training Project Who • All DOI employees What • Provide a bureau-specific Web/CD based messaging/learning resource to familiarize and train DOI employees with Activity Based Costing principles and coding When • Training will begin in September 2003 in concert with ABC rollout Where • Training will take place online (over the Internet and on stand-alone CD ROM) Why • Provide a consistent message as the Department moves to new way of cost accounting – all employees will use ABC methodology Department-wide Training – ABC

Lessons Learned from Arizona Pilots • Need more clarification on how data will be used • Need for a standardized training format and content to reflect a unified DOI message • More information on how we are coding our time to the activities Department-wide Training – ABC

Accomplishments to Date • Secretary Norton filming completed • Steve Williams shoot at Patuxent completed (FWS leadership message and Department segment) • Filming on schedule • Washington, DC shoots completed (August 5 – 7) • Phoenix, AZ shoots this week (August 13) • Denver, CO shoots August 18 – 19 • All tasks completed • Fish and Wildlife Service • U.S. Geological Survey • National Park Service Department-wide Training – ABC
Implementation • Rolling distribution • Training team to meet week of August 25 to develop distribution schedule • As each bureau completes filming, CD is released • Bureau put on Internet or Intranet • Distribution begins end of August Department-wide Training – ABC
