An overview of what has changed Main points • The time for the question paper has been extended. • All three sections are now worth more marks. • The Human Society section is now worth more than either of the other sections. • The assignment length, conditions of assessment and overall marks are unchanged. • There is little change to content.
Question paper changes Format and duration • Three sections: Human Society, Culture and Identity and Social Issues (unchanged). • Now worth 80 marks in total (previously 60 marks). • Human Society section is now worth 30 marks. • Culture and Identity section is now worth 25 marks. • Social Issues section is now worth 25 marks. • Time for question paper now 2 hours 40 minutes.

Culture and Identity • “Applying structural and action perspectives and the sociological theories… to describe, explain, analyse and evaluate.” • Theories unchanged. • Need to be able to give examples of all concepts. • Other study to explain aspects of culture and identity.

Assignment changes • Same marks but lower weighting. • No marks for common sense explanations anymore. • “Explaining the sociological significance of human social behaviour for a chosen topic.” • “Introduce topic and explain why it is of sociological significance” (4 marks) - Hypothesis (2 marks). • Mandatory studies from course must not be used in the assignment.
