Meet the Beavers • Caltech is a member of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (SCIAC) & competes in NCAA Division III athletic competitions. • We field 17 varsity teams including Baseball, Basketball, Fencing, Soccer, Swimming & Diving, Tennis, Track & Field/XC, Volleyball & Water Polo.

Braun Athletic Center • 2 gymnasiums • 3,500 square-foot weight room • Cybex circuit • Cardiovascular area (treadmills, cross-trainers, rowers, steppers, stationary bikes) • 4 racquetball courts • 2 international squash courts • 2 25-yard pools & spa • 8 tennis courts • Multipurpose room w/ spring floor • Rock climbing room • Heavy bag & speed bag area • 2 multi-purpose fields • 400-meter Mondo track • Locker & shower rooms.
Mascot 4-1-1 P.E. Requirement • Caltech students are REQUIRED to complete 9 units (i.e. 3 terms) of physical education. • It is the goal of the physical education program to enhance the physical, motor, mental & social development of all participating students.

As A Matter Of Fact… The Caltech Karate Club is the oldest in the nation! It was founded in 1955.
What Makes Caltech Athletics Unique? Student athletes w/ an emphasis on student • Student athletes have the opportunity to do research & get involved in the scientific community Flexible practice schedules • 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM Monday-Saturday No-cut athletics policy in place • Prior experience is not required – as long as you put in the time, you can play NCAA sports at Caltech! Higher GPAs! • Traditionally, Caltech athletes have the highest GPAs on campus!
Accomplished Athletes Teri Juarez – El Paso, TX Junior basketball & volleyball player Teri Juarez was featured on the cover the NCAA Champions Magazine! A mechanical engineering major, Teri has interned at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory & contributed to the book Thermodynamics for Dummies! GO BEAVERS!
Accomplished Athletes Eric Schropp – Ft. Myers, FL Junior shortstop Eric Schropp was voted to the 2010 All-SCIAC 2nd Team at the conclusion of the 2009-2010 baseball season! Eric batted .364 with a .532 slugging percentage and a .437 on-base percentage. GO BEAVERS!
Accomplished Athletes Laura Decker – Bridgewater, NJ Senior fencer Laura Decker placed 19th out of 112 National Team members from 8 countries at an Olympic qualifying event! Laura also qualified for the 2010 NCAA Fencing Championships in the women’s sabre division. GO BEAVERS!
Accomplished Athletes Grayson Chadwick – Santa Barbara, CA Senior defender Grayson Chadwick became the 1st Caltech’s men’s soccer player since 1989 to be named to the SCIAC all-conference first team! Grayson also earned a provisional 1-year patent for proposing a novel treatment for HIV/AIDS as a sophomore. GO BEAVERS!
Accomplished Athletes Sarah Wright – Strongsville, OH Sophomore midfielder Sarah Wright became the 1st woman to score a goal in a SCIAC men’s soccer game in a 2009 victory over Occidental College! A three-sport athlete, Wright also plays for the women’s basketball squad & runs track. GO BEAVERS!
Accomplished Athletes Alex Lapides – Naperville, IL Senior high jumper Alex Lapides broke Caltech’s 27-year old high jump record by clearing 6’6 ¾” at the Cal State L.A. Invitational! Alex is the defending 2010 SCIAC high jump champion. GO BEAVERS!
National Attention! The New York Times A recent article highlighted Caltech as the most academically elite men’s basketball team in the country! Los Angeles Times L.A. Times sportswriter Bill Plaschke reported on Caltech’s 1st ever Midnight Madness celebration! Numb3rs Caltech athletes made cameos in an episode starring L.A. Lakers stars Pau Gasol & Jordan Farmar! NCAA Champions Magazine Junior Teri Juarez has been featured on the cover (Teri was a member of the winningest Caltech women’s basketball team in history!)
Did You Know…? The only NBA coach to ever lose to Caltech is Gregg Popovich, current coach of the San Antonio Spurs. Caltech beat the Popovich-led Pomona-Pitzer squad in 1979!

Mascot 4-1-1 Caltech football has been undefeated since 1993!
Mascot 4-1-1 Actually, 1993 was the last year we fielded a team. However, in 1944 the Caltech football team went undefeated &un-scoredupon, the only college football team in history to accomplish this feat!
