Mission Statement • The MIRT is to: • Provide immediate on-scene maritime advice and agency liaison to Incident Commanders responding to fires in the marine environment • Promote marine fire fighting team-building efforts in the Port of Hampton Roads through training and drills
MEMBERSHIP • Approximately 100 members • Sponsoredby own agency • Most Fire Departments have • assigned full engine companies • to the MIRT

TYPES of INCIDENTS • Fires • Hazardous Materials • When requested by any local IC • When requested by the USCG/COTP • Hurricanes • Grounding • SAR Cases
EQUIPMENT • Thermal Imagers • Radiation Detection Equipment • Petrogen Cutting Torches • Rigging Gear • Specialized Marine Firefighting Equipment • Marine Communications
TRAINING • Annual Hampton Roads Marine Firefighting Symposium • Annual USCG/VPA SAR Forum • Quarterly MIRT Training • Assist any local jurisdiction with training needs
Response to LA PRINCESA • Sector requested MIRT at approx. 0400 on 13NOV09 • MIRT sent both firefighters and HAZMAT team from VA Beach • Worked w/ Atlantic Strike Team (AST) on plan for barge/cargo assessment • VA Beach HAZMAT team acted as back-up for AST personnel
