  1. What is my Next Step If my Immigration Case Is Taking Too much Time?

  2. Immigration cases are known to last quite a bit. In some states, these could last up to 15 months. This is what is called normal processing time. Whether you are applying for a U.S. citizenship or permanent residency (green card), for yourself or your family members, you have to pay attention to the processing time. However, what happens if your case is still going and taking too much time? There are a few things that you could do.

  3. Check Online The first thing that you should always do is check online to see if your case has been closed. Go to the USCIS online website and enter your Receipt Number. However, you will most likely find little to no information online and would have to turn to other ways of obtaining information about your immigration case.

  4. The Next Step: Calling the 1-800 Number If it has been 2 years since you filled and no one has come back to you with any information, it is time to call the 1-800-375-5283. That is the USCIS customer service number, where you can inquire about your case. Be sure to have your Receipt Number ready as you will be asked to present it. But once again, do not expect to learn a lot. The attorneys will know what to do next and will help guide you through the process.

  5. Making an Infopass Appointment The next thing you can do is schedule a face-to-face appointment with a USCIS adjudicator at the local USCIS office. If this does not work and if you still do not get the answers that you seek, you can always mail your local jurisdiction office. But it may take a while before you hear from anyone.
