  1. Top Tips for Mastering the PTE Summarize Written Text By Gurully Technologies The Speaking and Writing section of the PTE Academic test is the longest, lasting 77-93 minutes. In the Writing part, you will find two tasks: Summarize Written Text and Essay Writing. Summarize Written Text may seem easier than Essay Writing, but it can take up your time if you don’t have the right strategies. Running out of time in SWT can lower your Writing score. In this blog, we will give you simple tips to help you succeed in the PTE Summarize Written Text task of the PTE Writing test. Understanding the Task In Summarize Written Text, you will read a paragraph and write a one-sentence summary of it. You have 10 minutes to finish each task. Tips for Success 1. Include Main Points in One Sentence: Your summary must include the key ideas from the text in one sentence of no more than 75 words. Start with a capital letter and end with a full stop.

  2. 2. Watch the Word Count: Your answer must be between 5 and 75 words. Use the word counter to keep track and stay within the limit. 3. Don’t Add Extra Information: Do not include your own ideas or extra information. Stick to what is written in the text. 4. Focus on the Main Idea: Ask yourself, “What is the text about?” and “What happened?” to find the key points to include in your summary. 5. Read Twice: First, read the paragraph to understand the main idea. Then, read it again to pick out important words and phrases. 6. Use Complex Sentences: Since your summary is one sentence, use a complex or compound sentence. Connect ideas with words like “and,” “but,” or “if.” 7. Use Your Own Words: Try to paraphrase the information by using synonyms and different words. Avoid copying whole sentences. 8. Avoid Phrases Like “The Text Says”: Do not start your summary with phrases like “The paragraph says…”. Simply present the main ideas directly. 9. Use Correct Grammar: Make sure your grammar is correct. If unsure about a word, replace it with a simpler one that you know. By following these tips, you can confidently tackle the Summarize Written Text task and improve your score in the PTE Writing Practice.
